The hero expansion is much cheaper but includes new heroes, whereas the campaign expansion has only the scenarios? This can't be right, so I am clearly missing something. The special hunt for the ring variant is actually quite good. It’s a 2 v 2 game of risk where the ring moves across the board at the end of every round. If the ring makes it to the end of the track the free people’s side wins and if the Shadow finds the ring they win.

tim_p Archipelago • 1 yr. ago. Dune: Ixians & Tleilaxu expansion is totally worth it, IMHO, even just starting out in the game. Parts of it can add variety without adding much complexity. Tech tokens: Gives a way to score an extra stronghold, making the game a little bit shorter, which is needed IMHO.
Unfortunately, there is no definitive answer to this question. Officially, the game is on "hiatus", but most fans assume that it is unlikely to receive new expansions in the future. That said, there is a fan project called A Long Extended Party that continues the game and produces very high quality expansions with commissioned art and everything.
It depends why you love War of the Ring. If you love the GAME: Don't get an expansion. The expansions aren't bad, they are very good but the best, most polished version of the game is the base game itself. If you want to play online or competitively this is also how most games are played. If you love the BALANCE: Get Lords of Middle Earth.

My TL;DR: once you have a good handle on the base game (10+ plays), Lords of Middle Earth is a really satisfying expansion that adds a lot of choices without much extra fiddliness. I now use it 100% of the time. Warriors offers some cool thematic enhancements but adds significant rules and complexity that unfortunately isn't really worth it IMO.

Jan 2, 2020. So I got in trade a WOTR 1st edition. And I managed to find an unopened upgrade kit on ebay. If I replace the cards in the 1st edition with the ones from the upgrade kit, can I use the two new expansions Lordsof ME and Warriors of ME with my set.
